Here’s a rundown of promotions, hiring, movers, and news on the Memphis-area business scene:

Shawn Sentillesintellectual property attorney with more than 25 years of experience, joined Donelson Baker as Of Counsel in the firm’s Memphis office. He represents clients in intellectual property litigation, patent and trademark lawsuits, trade secret protection, intellectual property licensing and due diligence. Previously, he was a patent attorney at a listed multinational company in the field of medical devices. He is a graduate of Tulane Law School and serves on the Executive Council of the Intellectual Property Law Section of the Tennessee Bar Association.

the Memphis Medical District Collaboration announced several internal promotions as the organization grew. In addition to these promotions, MMDC hired four new employees in 2021. Recent promotions have been Abigail SheridanVice President, Chief Operating Officer; Ben SchulmanVice-President, Real Estate and Economic Development; Emily Harris HalpernProgram Director, Communications and Engagement; Latasha Harris, Program Director, Anchor Programs; and Mario KrauseProgram Coordinator, Real Estate and Economic Development.

the Tennessee Veterinary Medical Association recently named its 2022-2023 Board of Directors, which includes veterinarians from across the state. Newly elected officers include the President Bob Parker of Memphis Mobile K9 Chiropractic and Veterinary Care. Susan Moon of Brooks Road Animal Hospital in Memphis is the AVMA delegate.

dr. Marc Akin was selected as the 2022 Mississippi State University Alumnus of the Year. The 1977 graduate of Shannon High School earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Mississippi State. The Collierville resident has been practicing equine sports medicine for 36 years.

Harris Shelton Hanover Walsh announced the expansion of its legal team with the addition of two new lawyers, Louis Bernsonwho practices civil litigation, and Paul Matthews, with a focus on business and corporate law. Bernsen received his Juris Doctor from the University of Memphis last year and served as a summer lawyer with the firm. Matthews has over four decades of legal experience. He received his Juris Doctor from Vanderbilt University.

Tim BartonDirector of Research and Security Affairs at University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center (UTHSC), received the Patriot Award from the Office of the Secretary of Defense for Guard and Reserve Employer Support. The award is given to supervisors and bosses for providing direct support to an employee who is serving in the military. Barton was appointed by UTHSC health and safety specialist Charlie Hutton for his support in meeting Hutton’s commitments to the Army National Guard. Any employee serving in the National Guard or Reserve can appoint their supervisor to provide support through flexible hours, pre-deployment and post-deployment leave, caring for families, and granting time off. As a staff sergeant with 20 years of active duty and reserve experience, Hutton’s leadership and industrial hygiene training received in the military is directly related to his work as a health and safety at UTHSC.

the Collision Repair Education Foundation announced its newly appointed Executive Committee, made up of seven industry professionals who are dedicated to supporting the future of the industry by engaging with collision schools and students. The new members of the 2022 committee are president Steve Schmidt (State Farm); Vice-president Kevin Burnett (Gerber Collision & Glass); secretary Doug Irish (Fayetteville Technical Community College); Treasurer Ryan West (GEICO); Deputy Heads Don Mikrout (Wejo) and Brenda Hogen (parts dealer) and Past President Tom Wolf (PPG Industries).

Lawyer Stewart Brumbeloe joined the law firm Moskovitz, McGhee, Brown, Cohen & Moore as a partner. His practice will focus on family law. Stewart earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Memphis where he was a member of both the Sports and Entertainment Law Society and the Federalist Society. Stewart is a member of the Entertainment and Sports Law Section of the Tennessee Bar Association.
